The two mobile clinics will be affiliated with Egypt’s Armed Forces’ Medical Service Department and will be used to back the measures taken by the Egyptian government to combat and curb the pandemic; the video explained.
At the reception ceremony, Director of the Armed Forces’ Medical Service Department Hisham El-Sheshtawy affirmed the state’s continued keenness to back cooperative relations between Egypt and the US.
Gifting the two mobile clinics to Egypt expresses the US’ solidarity with Egypt, El-Sheshtawy added.
Attending the ceremony, US Ambassador to Cairo Jonathan Cohen stated that the gift aims to boost cooperation and the partnership between the two friendly countries, expressing his appreciation for Egypt’s role in facing the coronavirus pandemic and limit its spread.
Egypt and the US have exchanged medical aid during the pandemic, with the US dispatching nearly 12 million Pfizer vaccines to Egypt so far.
In August of last year, the US donated 250 ventilators to intensive care units to support Egypt’s efforts to combat the coronavirus.
In October of the same year, The US government announced that it was providing over $5 million in urgent coronavirus assistance to Egypt through the US Agency for International Development (USAID), bringing the total amount of assistance received to $55 million at the time.
In the beginning of the pandemic, Egypt sent a military plane loaded with medical supplies to the US to help the latter face the pandemic.
