Egypt reports 866 new coronavirus cases, 25 deaths on Saturday

Egypt reported 866 new coronavirus cases on Saturday bringing the total infection tally officially to 380, 520 since the outbreak began in February 2020.

Egypt’s Health Ministry said in its daily coronavirus statement that 25 new deaths related to COVID-19 complications were recorded in the past 24 hours nationwide, bringing the total number of deaths from the virus to 21,571.

The statement added that 760 patients have been discharged after recovering from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 316,656.

On Saturday, Egypt received 1.5 million Pfizer coronavirus vaccine doses from the US through COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access (COVAX), raising the total of vaccines donated by the US to Egypt to 15 million.

Since the beginning of its vaccination campaign in January, Egypt has administered 53.8 million coronavirus jabs with 20 million citizens being fully immunised, the health ministry said on Thursday.

An average of 350,000 doses is administered daily, the ministry noted.
