Egypt reports 809 new coronavirus cases, 28 deaths on Tuesday

Egypt reported 809 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday bringing the total infection tally recorded to 383,003 since the outbreak began in February 2020.

Egypt’s Health Ministry of Health and Population said in its daily coronavirus statement that 28 new deaths related to COVID-19 complications were recorded in the past 24 hours nationwide, bringing the total number of deaths from the virus to 21,667

The statement added that 711 patients have been discharged after recovering from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 318,456.

On Tuesday, Egypt's Coptic Orthodox Church announced that it was holding the Christmas mass on 6 January at the Cathedral of the Nativity of Christ at the New Administrative Capital due to COVID-19 concerns.

The mass will be broadcast live on television, according to news reports.

The church added that it will not be receive will-wishers for the same reason.
