Egypt reports 1,379 new coronavirus infections, 33 fatalities on Wednesday

Egypt reported 1,379 new coronavirus infections on Wednesday, bringing the total infection toll up to 403,990 since the outbreak began in February 2020, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Health and Population.

The ministry also reported 33 new deaths in the past 24 hours nationwide, bringing the total fatalities to 22,238.

The statement added that 1,599 patients have been discharged from hospitals after recovering from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 337,627.

President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi held a meeting on Wednesday with Presidential Adviser for Health Affairs Mohamed Awad Tag El-Din to discuss the latest developments and updates of the coronavirus pandemic in Egypt.

According to the Egyptian presidency, El-Sisi gave his directives to take all precautionary measures in crowded places, such as government and service associations, universities, and schools.

He also directed that support be given to chest hospitals nationwide and fitted with all the necessary equipment to deal with the growing number of infections.
