The statement added that 1,209 patients have been discharged from hospitals after recovering from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 343,971.

Egypt has so far imported about 132 million doses of various coronavirus vaccines and has opened 1,393 vaccination centres, Acting Health Minister Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar said in a meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and top health officials last week.

The country has also administered around 60.5 million vaccine doses, including first and second shots, as well as half a million booster shots, Abdel-Ghaffar noted.

Moreover, around 206,000 doses have been administered to children aged 12 to 15, while about 1.4 million shots have been given to teenagers aged 15 to 18.

Egypt has announced new travel restrictions that have been applied since Saturday as the number of coronavirus cases continue to increase.
