Egypt reports 2,117 new coronavirus infections, 56 deaths on Tuesday

Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population reported on Tuesday 2,117 new coronavirus infections, bringing the total number of cases since the outbreak began in February 2020 to 459,198.

The ministry also recorded 56 COVID-19-related fatalities, bringing the total tally of deaths to 23,465, according to the ministry’s daily report.

The report added that the total number of recoveries increased to 390,489 after 1,546 patients were discharged from hospitals nationwide in the past 24 hours.

The number of infections and deaths has stabilised in the previous week after increasing considerably during the month of January.

Two weeks ago, the government said that the number of cases is expected to decline significantly in the coming period.

The country currently has 39 million fully vaccinated citizens.

Furthermore, as many as 811,171 booster shots have been administered so far as part of the country’s ongoing vaccination campaign that started in January 2021, according to the ministry.
