Egypt reports 1,892 new coronavirus infections, 32 deaths on Wednesday

Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population reported 1,892 new coronavirus infections on Wednesday, bringing the total number of cases since the outbreak began in February 2020 to 475,341.

The ministry also recorded 32 coronavirus-related fatalities, bringing the total tally of deaths to 23,889.

The daily report added that the total number of recoveries increased to 406,107 after 2,140 patients were discharged from hospitals nationwide in the past 24 hours.

On Tuesday, Egypt's daily coronavirus infections dropped below the 2,000 mark for first time since late January.

More than 29.7 million citizens are fully vaccinated to date whereas more than 39 million citizens have received their first dose, the health ministry has announced.

Over one million citizens have received their third booster shooter.

The country plans to vaccinate 70 percent of its eligible population, those who are older than 12 years old, by the second half of 2022.
