Egypt reports 1,743 coronavirus infections, 35 deaths on Saturday
Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population reported 1,743 new coronavirus infections on Saturday, bringing the total number of cases since the outbreak began in February 2020 to 480,727.
The ministry also recorded 35coronavirus-related fatalities, bringing the total tally of deaths to 23,992.
The daily report added that the total number of recoveries increased to 410,948 after 1,200 patients were discharged from hospitals nationwide in the past 24 hours.
The country, which is battling a fifth wave of the pandemic, has witnessed a decline in the number of positive cases over the past several days.
Over the past two months, the cases spiked and exceeded the 2,000-threshold in late January.
On Wednesday, Egypt's daily coronavirus infections dropped below 2,000-mark for the first time since late January.
More than 30 million citizens are fully vaccinated to date and more than 40 million citizens have received their first dose, according to recent ministry figures.
Over million citizens have already received their third booster shooter.
The country plans to vaccinate 70 percent of its eligible population, those who are older than 12 years old, by the second half of 2022.
