In a cabinet meeting in New Alamein City on Thursday, Minister Abdel-Ghaffar shared the latest developments concerning the coronavirus locally and internationally, including Egypt's vaccination campaign.
The minister revealed that 99.8 percent of the target population received their first shot of the vaccine, and 78 percent have received their second shot.
Abdel-Ghaffar said that 97 million doses of different kinds of coronavirus vaccines have been used, and that Egypt's remaining stock is enough to complete the vaccination process.
He told the cabinet there is a noticeable decline in the coronavirus infection rate and in fatalities.
The World Health Organisation’s Eastern Mediterranean region office (EMRO) said on Sunday that Egypt has recorded a daily average of 116 coronavirus infections and five deaths.
EMRO added that Egypt has recorded 515,198 coronavirus cases since the initial outbreak.
Minister Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar also addressed the monkeypox virus, saying that six Arab countries have reported 33 cases, while 387 cases have been reported in Central and West Africa.
Egypt’s Ministry of Health said earlier this week that no cases of monkeypox have been recorded in Egypt.
