In statements on Friday, spokesman for the the health ministry Hossam Abdel-Ghaffar said the campaign is in line with the president's directives to enhance COVID-19 vaccination coverage nationwide.

The campaign covered Menoufiya, Minya, Assiut, Qena and Qalioubiya governorates, the spokesman noted.

Approximately 41 million citizens have received COVID-19 vaccines – either initial or booster shots – and 56 million doses are still available to be administered, according to recently released ministry figures.

On Wednesday, Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar said in a cabinet meeting that the number of coronavirus-related deaths decreased during the seventh week of 2023 compared to the previous six weeks while reviewing the status of the pandemic in the country.

According to early statements from health ministry officials,  the dominant strain of coronavirus currently in Egypt is the Omicron variant, which is more contagious despite exhibiting milder symptoms.
