According to a statement released on Wednesday, Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar said a 68-year-old female patient who was evacuated from Sidi Salem's ICU died of a brain stroke two hours after being transferred to another hospital.

Meanwhile, Kafr El-Sheikh Governor Gamal Nour El-Din declared a state of emergency at the hospital following the incident.

In a statement on Tuesday evening, the governor said an electrical short circuit caused the fire.

For his part, Minister Abdel-Ghaffar said 27 patients were transferred to other hospitals, including Kafr El-Sheikh and Desouq general hospitals, after the fire.

The minister reassured the public that all hospitals in the governorate are fully equipped to meet any emergencies.
