Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar and the French Ambassador to Cairo, Eric Chevalier met on Sunday to discuss the steps taken to implement the agreement, which was signed last year.

The Egyptian hospital would be first branch of the French institution, recognized by Newsweek as one of the top five cancer institutes in the world in 2023, outside of France.

A statement by the health ministry explained that it has worked to develop the hospital’s infrastructure, medical devices, training, and human resources.

However, the statement did not reveal any further details concerning the implementation.

The ministry also said that the meeting explored opportunities for future cooperation between the two countries in the health sector.

Dar El-Salam Hospital

One of Egypt’s oldest hospitals, Dar El-Salam General Hospital was established in the early 20th century.

In 2017, the general hospital was converted into a cancer-specialized hospital.

Since 2019, the hospital has been a major part of the presidential initiative for women's health, providing breast examinations for 18,000 women that year alone.

Last year, the hospital’s director announced plans to establish a one-day diagnostic clinic, the first of its kind on Egypt as part of its implementation of the agreement with the Gustave Roussy Institute.

Gaza war

Abdel-Ghaffar and Chevalier also discussed the ministry's need to continue treating Palestinians amid Israel’s war on Gaza, especially those that require cancer treatment.

The minister affirmed Egypt's keenness to provide all services to those in need in the Gaza Strip as well as to foreigners residing in Egypt.
