The new regulations aim to ensure their effectiveness and minimize the risks of misuse amid the increasing prevalence of antibiotic resistance cases reported globally - a significant threat to public health.
Those 11 antibiotics are Azteonam, Ceftaroline-fosamil, Ceftaroline/avibacktam, Ceftaroline/tazobactam, Colistin, Colistin, Dalbavancin, Daptomycin, Linezolid, Tedizolid, and Tigecycline.
These medications are classified as part of the Reserve group used to treat severe or resistant infections.
The authority added that the regulations include clear instructions for dispensing antibiotics, specifying the cases that necessitate their use, and how to store and distribute them to ensure their effectiveness.
The EDA emphasized that all concerned parties must comply with these regulations.
