Serag's apology came hours after Prime Minister Madbouly apologized to the doctor publicly in the cabinet’s weekly press conference on Wednesday.
"My conversation with you was like a father speaking to his daughter. Our common goal is to serve the citizens,” Governor Serag told the doctor, affirming his respect and appreciation for doctors and all health sector workers.
Earlier on Wednesday, a video showing the new governor of Sohag scolding Dr. Anwar went viral in Egypt.
The governor, who had been on an inspection tour of the hospital on Tuesday, scolded the doctor for refusing to examine a patient who did not have a ticket.
The video went viral after it was published by the governorate on Wednesday, garnering mixed reactions, with some applauding the governor's actions and others sympathizing with the doctor. The video was later removed.
Some Sohag Doctors' Syndicate members submitted their resignations in solidarity with their colleague Dr. Anwar.
PM Madbouly apologized to the doctor following the widespread reaction on social media.
"As executive officials, we are keen to ensure citizen's satisfaction. It is the governor's right to strive for the best service for citizens without infringing the rights of state employees. I apologize to the doctor if any transgression occurred," Madbouly said in a press conference after the weekly cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
Egyptian Medical Syndicate praised PM Madbouly's stance on the incident and his public apology to the doctor.
The syndicate also affirmed its commitment to following up on the matter.
According to the syndicate, the governor was the one who committed several violations including filming inside the hospital as it was banned by the Ministry of Health, admitting a patient without a ticket, providing medical advice without authority as he was filmed while giving orders to give IV solutions to a patient, violating patient privacy, and spreading accusations against the doctor without investigation.
The syndicate added that it would submit a report to the attorney general, documenting the violations of the Sohag governor against the doctor at Al-Maragha hospital.
