The recent surge of West Nile Virus cases in Israel has led to a series of preventive measures by Egypt's Ministry of Health and Population's Quarantine Department, including elevating its preparedness level across air, sea, and land entry points.

The ministry also implemented stringent health control procedures for passengers and goods arriving from Israel, following the Israeli health ministry's reports on the outbreak, including confirmed cases and fatalities.

Furthermore, the Egyptian Quarantine Authority issued a comprehensive set of guidelines to prevent the spread of the virus.

These measures include thorough health screenings for all travellers coming from Israel, whether directly or indirectly, using advanced technology, such as thermal cameras, gates, and remote temperature measuring devices.

This approach ensures keeping the passengers’ movement uninterrupted while maintaining vigilant health checks.

Suspected cases identified through these screenings will be immediately referred to hospitals for evaluation, and relevant authorities will be notified.

Beyond passenger screening, the Egyptian Quarantine Department mandated specific preventive measures for transportation.

Airlines operating flights to and from Israel should disinfect their aircraft before arriving at Egyptian airports, adhering to the World Health Organization (WHO) approved methods.

Similarly, shipping agencies must ensure that all vessels, whether carrying passengers or cargo, are thoroughly disinfected before docking at Egyptian seaports.

Proof of these disinfection processes is mandatory, and ships will only be allowed to dock after receiving a clearance certificate from quarantine authorities.

According to the WHO's website, West Nile Virus is commonly found in Africa, Europe, the Middle East, North America, and West Asia.

The virus cycle involves transmission between birds and mosquitoes, infecting humans, horses, and other mammals.
