Egypt's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar, announced that an agreement to offer free cancer treatment in Egypt would soon be finalized with France's Gustave Roussy Center, one of the world's leading oncology hospitals.

Gustave Roussy, ranked fourth globally by Newsweek and recognized as Europe's top cancer centre, specializes in treating all types of cancer, including rare and complex cases, for patients of all ages.

Speaking on "Al-Hekaya" on MBC Masr TV on Saturday evening, Abdel-Ghaffar shared details about a new hospital building at the Dar El Salam Cancer Hospital "Harmel" in Cairo.

The 9-floor facility will have 209 inpatient beds, 30 ICU beds, 33 bone marrow transplant units, and radiotherapy and chemotherapy departments.

In March, Egypt's cabinet approved a plan to transform the Dar El Salam Cancer Centre into the first international branch of Gustave Roussy after three years of negotiations to establish the first Gustave Roussy branch outside France in Egypt.

This initiative aims to enhance local healthcare, reduce the need for treatment abroad, and promote medical tourism.

Dar El Salam, which became a cancer-specialized hospital in 2017, has been part of a presidential initiative for women's health since 2019.

As part of the partnership with Gustave Roussy, the hospital will also introduce Egypt's first one-day diagnostic clinic.

Moreover, Abdel-Ghaffar emphasized that the collaboration with Gustave Roussy will offer comprehensive cancer care for all types, not just breast cancer.

He affirmed that all treatment would be free of charge for patients, with funding fully covered by the government through health insurance or the waiting list system.

Abdel-Ghaffar further noted that the Ministry of Health runs 14 oncology centres nationwide and plans to establish more centres alongside the National Cancer Institute.
