Egyptian ambulances lined up at the Rafah crossing to receive and evacuate wounded Palestinians
Wadie made his remarks on Wednesday during an expanded meeting of the committee assigned to draft a comprehensive plan for receiving Palestinians injured in the ongoing Israeli war on the strip.
The health ministry stated that this initiative is in complete alignment with presidential and governmental directives, which call for providing comprehensive support and emergency medical services to help alleviate Palestinians' immense suffering.
Health Ministry Spokesman Hossam Abdel-Ghaffar said Wednesday’s meeting reflects Egypt’s commitment to its humanitarian responsibilities toward the Palestinian people.
Abdel-Ghaffar said the meeting featured a comprehensive review of all measures taken to receive and treat thousands of Palestinians among over 117,000 injured - predominantly women and children - since 7 October 2023.
The meeting covered hospital capacities, ambulance and interfacility transport logistics, and arrangements for providing suitable and comfortable accommodation for the injured and their companions.
Additionally, the committee reviewed mechanisms for providing essential psycho-social support for the injured, easing the impact of trauma, and enhancing emergency response efforts.
In early April, Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar stated that Egypt extended medical services worth $578 million to injured Palestinians, which he estimates could rise to $1 billion.
Egypt has deployed 150 ambulances in North Sinai to receive patients at the Rafah border crossing, supported by 750 medics and drivers.
The nation also vaccinated 27,000 children and treated over 8,000 wounded individuals, accompanied by 16,000 caretakers.
Abdel-Ghaffar noted that the ministry assigned 38,000 doctors and 25,000 nurses across various specialities to treat patients from Gaza, including those with chronic illnesses.
Moreover, Egyptian medical teams have performed over 5,160 surgical operations for sick and injured Palestinians at 300 hospitals across 26 governorates.
Abdel-Ghaffar also clarified that 176 hospitals across 24 governorates currently care for the wounded and offer full accommodation and support for their accompanying individuals
