Her comments came during a visit on Saturday to inspect several healthcare facilities in Aswan, including El-Masala Specialized Hospital. She was received by officials from the General Healthcare Authority, along with Amal Ammar, President of the National Council for Women, and Aswan Governor Ismail Kamal.
Eichhorst said the EU’s support for Egypt’s healthcare sector stems from the strength of their strategic partnership, adding that Egypt continues to be among the bloc’s most supported and reliable partners in the region.
Ahmed El-Sobky, head of the General Healthcare Authority, welcomed the ambassador’s remarks, saying they reflect international recognition of Egypt’s healthcare progress.
“The General Healthcare Authority is now seen as a model—both locally and internationally,” he said in a statement.
El-Sobky also underscored the expansion of Universal Health Insurance in Aswan as part of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi’s broader vision for citizen-focused development, noting the emphasis on prioritising Upper Egypt in national healthcare plans.
He said Aswan remains central to ongoing efforts to roll out advanced medical services under the Universal Health Insurance system.
