The announcement came during the Gastroenterology Scientific Day, where specialists performed advanced procedures, including peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) for achalasia, removal of bile duct stones with stent placement, and endoscopic ultrasound-guided biopsies.
According to a statement by the EHA, the technology enables the early detection of tumours with high precision, marking a significant step towards smart healthcare.
EHA Chairman Dr Ahmed El-Sobky said the achievement reflects the readiness of the complex in terms of infrastructure, medical expertise, and advanced technologies.
He noted that the use of AI in endoscopy places Suez “at the forefront of modern medicine” and supports the authority’s broader strategy of enhancing health security under the Universal Health Insurance System.
The statement added that the medical complex has provided over one million medical and therapeutic services to citizens, all delivered per the highest standards of quality.
The Suez Medical Complex is among the authority’s largest facilities that hold national accreditation from the General Authority for Health Accreditation and Control (GAHAR), which is recognized internationally by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA).
It operates as the first smart digital hospital utilizing 5G technology.
Moreover, El-Sobky praised the participation of leading professors and consultants from major Egyptian universities, alongside a highly trained nursing staff.
He also affirmed that such achievements demonstrate the authority’s commitment to integrating cutting-edge medical technologies across Egypt’s healthcare system.
He further emphasized that the introduction of advanced technologies is part of the authority’s broader strategy to strengthen health security across all governorates, in line with the implementation of Egypt’s Universal Health Insurance System (UHIS).
El-Sobky also commended the complex's highly qualified medical and nursing staff, affirming that such achievements could not have been realized without them.
The UHIS, a multi-phase programme, began in 2018 in Port Said and has since expanded to Ismailia, South Sinai, Suez, Luxor, and Aswan.
The first phase of the UHIS has focused on upgrading medical infrastructure, at a cost exceeding EGP 51 billion.
The second phase, expected to begin later this year, will extend coverage to Damietta, Marsa Matrouh, Kafr El-Sheikh, North Sinai, and Minya, with an estimated cost of EGP 115 billion, according to Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly.
Originally slated for completion by 2032, the UHIS will be rolled out nationwide by 2027 per presidential directives.
