The minister’s decision came during an urgent meeting with the hospital’s management, according to a statement by Hossam Abdel-Ghaffar, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Health, on Sunday.
He emphasized that the hospital is contractually required to provide full, high-quality services to 70 percent of its patients without adding any consultation fees.
He added that Assistant Minister for Therapeutic Affairs Peter Wagiih and Maha Ibrahim, head of the Specialized Medical Centres Secretariat, were assigned to monitor compliance on the ground within 24 hours, with immediate action to be taken against any violations.
He also stressed that citizens’ right to free treatment under state-funded care will not be affected, the statement indicated.
In March 2024, the government approved turning Dar El-Salam Hospital (Hermel) into the first international branch of Gustave Roussy in Egypt.
