A prominent terrorist cadre, Jamil Suleiman Zuraei (aka 'Abu Anas') and his son were killed on Friday in a qualitative operation by the Armed Forces in El-Arish city, the capital of the North Sinai Governorate, a well-informed source told Ahram Online.

Abu Anas was among the top ranking leaders of the the so-called “Sinai Province” group that follows the terrorist Islamic State terrorist group.

An announcement in May by the terrorist group that Abu Anas had been killed was revealed to have been disinformation since his body was not found at the time, the sources said.

Abu Anas and his son were targeted as they were both hiding and armed in the vicinity of the fence of the under-construction El-Arish Airport, according to the sources.

Other leading terrorists were also killed in operations over the past week, the sources added.

Those killed included some Palestinian fugitives from the Gaza Strip, most notably Hamza Al-Zamili, the mufti of the terrorist group, who was leading a cell in the Gelbana village in North Sinai, near Suez Canal, according to the sources.

The rate of terrorist attacks in North Sinai has declined in the past few years following massive security and military operations, leading up to the launch of Comprehensive Operation Sinai in 2018.
