Egypt's El Fateh-class corvette, American destroyer USS Forrest Sherman, and Spanish Frigate ESPS Almirante Juan de Borbón took part in the drills, according to Egyptian Armed Forces’ Spokesman Gharib Abdel-Hafez.

According to the spokesman, the joint drills included a training to preserve naval security and face threats that can impact freedom of international navigation and the flow of global trade in areas of mutual interest.

These drills come as part of the Egyptian navy's joint training programs with international peers to enhance the combat capabilities of its personnel, and enable them to fend off challenges and ensure maritime security and stability in the region, the spokesman noted.

The Egyptian Navy has conducted several drills with each of the Spanish and US navies over the past several years to upgrade its training capabilities and exchange military experience with partner countries.
