Egyptian Armed Forces appoints new spokesman

Defence Minister and commander-in-chief of Egypt’s Armed Forces Mohamed Zaki approved on Sunday the appointment of Colonel Islam Mahdi as the Armed Forces’ new official spokesman.

Mahdi is replacing Colonel Gharib Abdel-Hafez Gharib, who was appointed as spokesperson in June 2021.

The announcement was made via the spokesperson's official Facebook page.

Mahdi graduated from the Egyptian Military Academy in July 2002, and obtained a master's degree in economics and political science.

During his military career, he received a number of medals and decorations, including the 25 April Decoration (Liberation of Sinai) and the UN medal.
