Built by ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) at SBN Shipyard, the Al-Qahhar incorporates advanced armaments and combat systems, according to a statement by the Egyptian Armed Forces on Sunday.
This frigate is the second of the four MEKO A-200 frigates contracted between Egypt and Germany.
The first MEKO A-200 frigate was received by Egypt in October 2022.
During the reception ceremony for the frigate's arrival, Commander of the Egyptian Navy Ashraf Atwa conveyed greetings from President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and Minister of Defence and Military Production Mohamed Zaki to the frigate's crew.
In May, Atwa raised the Egyptian flag on the frigate during a ceremony in Bremerhaven, marking the official handover to Egypt.
Atwa emphasized the Armed Forces' commitment to a comprehensive strategy for the development and modernization of the Egyptian naval fleet, with the aim of enhancing security and stability in its area of operations.
