Israeli army apologizes after ‘accidentally’ shelling Egyptian site near Gaza

The Israeli army has apologized after one of its tanks “accidentally” shelled an Egyptian post in Karm Abu Salem (Kerem Shalom) near the border with the Gaza Strip.

Avichay Adraee, an Israeli army spokesman, said the incident is under investigation, offering the Israeli military's apologies.

Egyptian Armed Forces Spokesman Gharib Abdel-Hafez said a number of military surveillance personnel were “slightly” injured in the Israeli shelling as its fragments hit an Egyptian border surveillance tower.

“The Israeli side immediately expressed regret for the unintentional incident,” Abdel-Hafez said, noting an investigation is underway.
