
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi lays a wreath at the Memorial of the Unknown Soldier in Cairo, marking the 42nd anniversary of the Sinai Liberation Day.
The president also paid his respects at the tomb of late Egyptian President Anwar El-Sadat, who led the 1973 October War for the liberation of Sinai from Israeli occupation.
According to the presidency's statement, El-Sisi was accompanied by Defence Minister Mohamed Zaki and Chief of Staff Osama Askar, along with several military commanders.
In addition, the martyr’s anthem was played in appreciation of the sacrifices of the Egyptian martyrs to defend their homeland.
On 25 April, Egypt celebrates the completion of the withdrawal of all Israeli military forces from the Sinai Peninsula in 1982, following the 1979 Egyptian-Israeli peace treaty.
The US-brokered Camp David peace accord was signed after the victory of the Egyptian army over Israeli occupation forces in the October 1973 War.
Sinai Liberation Day is an official holiday in Egypt.
