The airdrops came under the directives of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi to work on delivering humanitarian aid including food, medicine, and relief materials urgently needed by the population of the strip, in cooperation with several brotherly and friendly countries.
This comes as part of Egypt's pivotal role towards the Palestinian cause, alleviating the humanitarian crisis and improving the conditions within the strip, the spokesman said.
On Wednesday, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs Badr Abdelatty and his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi warned against the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza and the disastrous implications of the ongoing Israeli violence against Palestinians.
Both ministers also confirmed their complete rejection of Israel's control over the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing, which has completely hindered aid delivery to innocent civilians.
Egypt has conducted multiple aid airdrops since the start of the Israeli blockade on Gaza.
Since 7 October, Israeli ground offensives and bombardments have killed more than 38,300 people in Gaza and wounded over 88,000, according to the Palestinian health ministry.
In addition, more than 80 percent of Gaza’s 2.3 million people have been driven out of their homes, most of whom are now crowded into squalid tent camps and facing widespread hunger.
