A handover ceremony was held to mark the occasion, during which the Egyptian flag was raised on the vessels, formally bringing them into service, according to a statement from the military spox.

The navy described the acquisition as part of its broader efforts to modernize combat and armament systems and enhance its operational capabilities.

Rear Admiral Mahmoud Fawzi, Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Navy, said the delivery reflects the depth of strategic cooperation between Egypt, the EU, and the IOM. He reaffirmed the military’s commitment to expanding and strengthening the naval fleet to bolster regional maritime security.

The SAR-1700 vessels, among the latest in maritime search and rescue technology, are seen as a significant addition to Egypt’s naval capabilities.
