In a statement, the US embassy in Cairo said that this event took place on Wednesday, one day before the opening of the Egyptian–American joint military exercise, Bright Star 2025, taking place at the Mohamed Naguib Military Base.

“Bright Star strengthens our mutual defence, promotes regional stability, and shows that together, we’re stronger and safer,” the US embassy said.

The embassy further described the Egyptian-American drill Bright Star as the region’s largest and longest-running multinational military exercises.

"This is an important reminder that the United States and Egypt stand side by side, united under our flags for a safer and more secure region," the statement read.

The 19th edition of the exercise, taking place from 28 August to 10 September, includes 44 participating countries.

Fourteen countries are participating with troops (nearly 8,000 soldiers), and 30 other countries are joining as observers.

Launched in 1980 as a bilateral Egypt-US exercise, Bright Star has since developed into a multinational exercise aimed at reinforcing regional security and strengthening military cooperation.
