Egyptian, Pakistani military leaders discuss strengthening defence cooperation

Pakistan’s Army Chief General Asim Munir reaffirmed his country’s commitment to strengthening military ties with Egypt, commending Cairo’s pivotal role in promoting peace and stability across the Middle East.

General Munir, who is officially visiting Egypt at the head of a delegation, made these remarks during a meeting in Cairo with General Abdel-Meguid Saqr, Minister of Defence and Military Production, the Egyptian Armed Forces announced on Friday.

The two sides reviewed several areas of common interest within the broader framework of deepening military ties between Egypt and Pakistan.

They also exchanged views on regional and international developments and emphasised the importance of cooperation in supporting global peace and security.

General Saqr expressed his appreciation for the long-standing relations between the armed forces of both nations, underscoring the importance of joint efforts to enhance stability amid the rapidly changing regional and international landscape.

Similarly, Lieutenant-General Ahmed Khalifa, Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces, also met with General Munir at the Ministry of Defence headquarters, where an official reception ceremony was held, including the playing of both national anthems.

The two sides discussed means to enhance military cooperation and exchange expertise across various fields.

Lieutenant General Khalifa emphasised, for his part, the importance of advancing military collaboration between Egypt and Pakistan.

In return, General Munir expressed appreciation for the distinguished military relations between Egypt and Pakistan and reiterated his country’s commitment to expanding cooperation with the Egyptian Armed Forces.

A group of senior Egyptian and Pakistani military officials attended the meetings.
