Egypt’s Armed Forces on Sunday denied social media reports alleging that officers had been granted unlawful privileges in violation of the constitution, describing the claims as part of a misinformation campaign by "hostile elements" abroad.

In a statement, the military spokesperson said the General Command had monitored documents circulating online that were "falsely attributed" to the armed forces.”

These documents were disseminated “through accounts linked to hostile elements abroad as part of ongoing attempts to sow discord, spread misinformation, and deliberately include the names of individuals who retired from the Armed Forces or left service long ago, in an effort to falsely lend credibility to these claims,” he added.

The statement added that such claims "contradict the Armed Forces’ principles, which are based on safeguarding citizens’ dignity, maintaining national security and stability, and supporting the equal application of the law by state institutions."

The General Command also urged citizens not to be misled by such irresponsible actions and to verify information and rely solely on statements issued by the official spokesperson of the Armed Forces as the only source of information.

“The Armed Forces affirm that your army is the army of the people, born from its very core and the soil of this eternal homeland, committed to the provisions of the Constitution and the rule of law, and will remain a shield and sword protecting Egypt and its people,” the statement concluded.
