The Russian airline noted that prior to suspending its flights entirely, it would only operate one-way flights from Egypt during 5 to 13 March to transport Russians back to their homeland or others who want to return to their country of residence.
Ural Airlines has also recently announced it would suspend its flights to Thailand till the end of May and its flights to UAE, Armenia and Israel from 4 to 26 March.
Ural Airlines has not provided a reason for their decisions.
On Saturday, Aeroflot – Russia's flag carrier and largest airline – announced that it would suspend all its international flights starting 8 March, except to Belarus, due to “additional circumstances that prevent the performance of flights."
EgyptAir’s flight to Moscow was cancelled on Sunday for the fourth day in a row, according to sources who spoke to Ahram Arabic portal.
The suspension of the Egyptian national carrier’s flights to Moscow will continue until further notice, the sources said without giving reasons.
In media statements, Egyptian Cabinet Spokesperson Nader Saad said that the decisions to suspend flights to Egypt from Russia and Ukraine due to the war in Ukraine were a “big hit” to the Egyptian tourism sector as both countries are main exporters of tourists to Egypt.
Saad added that the Egyptian government was looking for an alternative to compensate for this loss.
According to Russian Ambassador to Egypt Georgy Borisenko, about 125,000 Russian tourists visited Egypt during the first two weeks of 2022 and that 700,000 Russian tourists visited Egypt in 2021.
In 2018, Russia resumed flights to Cairo after a three-year suspension following the crash of a Russian airliner over Sinai in 2015.
In July 2021, Russia lifted a flight ban on the popular Red Sea tourist cities of Hurghada and Sharm El-Sheikh.
