Meanwhile, it described Marsa Alam as “a scuba diver’s paradise on the banks of the Red Sea” and Hurghada as “a resort-style holiday spot” that has a bonus due to its proximity to Giftun Island.

Two weeks after its launch, a promotional video dubbed ‘Follow the Sun’ has made Egypt trend online worldwide, especially on social media platforms in the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, France and the United States.

Google searches for Egypt increased in Germany by 187 percent, in France by more than 125 percent, in the United Kingdom by 106 percent, and in Italy by 240 percent, said Assistant Minister of Tourism and Antiquities for Promotion Lamia Kamel in a statement on Wednesday.

The video amassed more than 22 million views on YouTube, and Google searches for Egypt increased by 102 percent compared to last year in the targeted markets, Amr El-Kady, CEO of the Egyptian General Tourism Authority, also said in the statement.

The video is part of an online promotional campaign launched by the ministry earlier this year, which has achieved remarkable success on various social media sites, reaching 107 million users.

Cairo was also named the second most trending destination in the world a day earlier by the world's largest travel guidance platform Tripadvisor.

Egypt’s capital came in ninth spot for city lovers in 2022, while Hurghada was named the 10th most popular destination by the travel guidance platform.
