Mostafa Waziri, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities said that visitors to Karnak temples in Luxor were able to view this phenomenon as the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities in collaboration with the National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIAG) had distributed special eyeglasses.
Visitors stood in the temple’s front courtyard and enjoyably followed the phenomenon.
The eclipse began worldwide at 10:58am but was visible in Egypt starting noon and hit its peak at 1:09pm when 37.3 percent of the sun was blocked out as the moon passed between it and the Earth.
Solar eclipses occur an average of two to five times a year.
The partial solar eclipse was also visible to varying degrees across Europe, the Urals and Western Siberia, Central Asia, Western Asia, South Asia and from the north-east of Africa.
