“We will celebrate this day through a comprehensive programme that includes cultural and artistic events to increase public awareness about the significant role that museums play in enhancing artistic appreciation, preserving heritage, and fostering community development,” Minister of Culture Nevine El-Kilany said in the statement.
Various events will be organized in museums affiliated with the sectors of fine arts and the Cultural Development Fund in Cairo and other governorates.
Museums in Cairo include those of Mohamed Mahmoud Khalil, Mahmoud Mokhtar, Hassan Heshmat, A'fet Naji Saad Al-Khadem, and Naguib Mahfouz.
In Giza, the Mohamed Nagy, Ahmed Shawky, Taha Hussein, and Mustafa Kamel, Zakaria Al-Khonany, Ayda Abdel-Karim, and Umm Kulthum museums can be visited for free.
In Alexandria, the museums include the Museum of Fine Arts and Mahmoud Said Centre for Museums.
In other governorates, museums like the El-Nasr Museum for Modern Art in Port Said, the El-Abnoudi Museum for the Hilalian Epic in Qena, and the Mansoura National Museum are open for free on Thursday.
Last year, over 37,000 museums from 158 countries and territories participated in the event.
This year's theme is "Museums, Sustainability, and Wellbeing," emphasizing the role of museums in supporting sustainable development goals.
