On Sunday, the site was taken offline as a precautionary measure after authorities thwarted a cyberattack.

A hacking group calling itself “Anonymous Collective” claimed on its Telegram channel that it hacked and brought down the website as well as its server and mobile application.

On Sunday, the group claimed that it was the biggest hacking operation against an Egyptian airport to date.

However, Egypt’s Ministry of Civil Aviation stressed in a statement that all services and data on the website remain secure and unaffected by the hacking attempt.

It added that the Cairo International Airport company adheres to the highest standards of cybersecurity.

An investigation is ongoing to identify the perpetrator and take legal action.

Sources at the airport told Ahram Arabic gate that the hacking attempt was committed from outside the country and is currently being traced.
