The new route will have three weekly flights on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday using the 777-300 Boeing model. The airline hopes to increase the rate to one flight per day next year, The Paper reported on Friday, citing the general manager of EgyptAir China Mohamed Khaled Fouad.

EgyptAir is also offering a 25 percent discount on tickets from Cairo to Shanghai until 30 November.

Earlier this year, EgyptAir announced the launch of two new routes: one to Manchester, UK, starting mid-July, and the other to Delhi, India, starting August.

The flagship carrier also recently added routes to Dhaka in Bangladesh and New Jersey's Newark as part of plans to expand its network.

In April, Egypt welcomed a record-breaking 1.35 million tourists, marking a significant milestone for the country's recovering tourism sector following hits from the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine crisis.

The Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Ahmed Issa recently stated that the country aims to attract 15 million visitors in 2023, surpassing the previous record of 14.7 million set in 2010.
