Egypt's Minister of Emigration and Expatriates' Affairs Ambassador Soha Gendi
The event will be attended by Presidential Advisor for Health and Prevention Affairs Mohammed Awad Tag El-Din and South Sinai Governor Khaled Fouda, along with ministers, governors, officials, and heads of health and tourism institutions in Egypt, according to the ministry's official statement.
Furthermore, the conference will feature a large number of international figures working in the fields of medical insurance and tourism as speakers, as well as scientific sessions to discuss the latest developments in medical tourism across the globe.
Ambassador Gendy noted that the event will highlight the ability of Egyptian health institutions to attract medical tourism.
The development of medical tourism will play a significant role in advancing the sustainable development of the Egyptian economy, Gendy explained.
National efforts
In July 2023, the General Authority for Healthcare (GAH) launched the first national electronic platform for medical tourists.
"The medical tourism market is estimated at over $115 billion annually, with an annual growth rate of more than 12.5 percent, and is expected to reach over $346 billion annually by 2030," according to GAH Chairman Ahmed El-Sobky.
Egypt ranked fourth regionally and 26th worldwide in the Medical Tourism Index, according to previous figures reported by Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel-Gaffar.
“Egypt has highly-qualified doctors, excellent hospitals, and ancient tourist attractions in addition to moderate weather but only lacks unified treatment costs for medical tourists.
Egypt only ranked behind Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Oman in the Middle East in the index’s 2020-2021 edition.
Globally, the top five countries for medical tourism were Canada, Singapore, Japan, Spain and the UK.
Showcasing capabilities
The conference is an ideal platform for exchanging ideas and visions in medical tourism, showcasing health capabilities in the government, private, and civil sectors, noted the statement.
In addition, the ministry will highlight other tourism investment opportunities available in Egypt for Egyptian investors, both at home and expats.
"This will encourage Egyptians abroad to visit tourist and archaeological sites in Egypt and develop their sense of belonging and pride in their country," the statement concluded.
