Companies and establishments covered by this decree must comply with its provisions within six months.
Egypt's southeast Red Sea governorate includes major resort cities like Hurghada, Gouna and Marsa Alam.
The decree follows in the footsteps of a 2019 decree setting hotel criteria in line with international standards, established in collaboration with the World Tourism Organization and implemented in 2022.
According to the ministry’s statement, the most recent decree is part of the efforts to transform Egypt's tourism sector into an environmentally friendly one as part of the national tourism development strategy.
It also aligns with the ministry's sustainable development goals and Egypt's Vision 2030 to preserve environmental balance, sustain tourism and archaeological activities, promote the transition to a green economy, promote environmentally friendly practices, and consider sustainability criteria in its environmental, economic, and social dimensions.
