The flight was met with a welcoming ceremony featuring the traditional water salute.

A public relations team at the airport warmly welcomed the passengers with flags, flowers, and chocolates.

The Danish and Norwegian ambassadors to Egypt, Anne Dorte Riggelsen and Hilde Klemetsdal, participated in the ceremony.

The inaugural flight marks the beginning of a new route operated by Norway’s Air Shuttle company.

According to a statement by the Egyptian Airports Company, this new route will offer two weekly flights between Copenhagen, and Sphinx International Airport during the winter season.

The Egyptian Airports Company expects the Sphinx International Airport to experience increased passenger traffic and an influx of European travellers during the winter tourism season to the Pyramids of Giza and the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM).

Meanwhile, the Danish embassy in Cairo emphasized in a statement on Sunday that the new air route serves as a gateway to the wonders of ancient Egypt, opening opportunities for travel, business, and cultural exchanges.

Sphinx International Airport, located south of Cairo, was inaugurated in January 2020 and renovated in 2022 to serve as a key hub for both domestic and international travel, offering convenient access to nearby popular tourist destinations like the Pyramids of Giza and the GEM.

The airport, which relieves congestion at Cairo International Airport, has an annual capacity of 1.2 million passengers.
