According to the directorate, Mattia arrived at the Marsa Alam One-Day Surgery Hospital on Sunday unconscious and clinically dead, having experienced vomiting, severe headaches, and seizures the day before.
A CT scan performed at the hospital revealed that Mattia suffered a brain haemorrhage caused by a brain tumour.
Doctors tried to drain fluid from his airways and performed several attempts to resuscitate him.
However, all efforts to save Mattia's life failed, and doctors pronounced the boy dead in the early hours of Monday.
Mattia, who celebrated his 9th birthday on 23 December, had arrived in the popular tourist hub Marsa Alam on the Red Sea for holidays with his mother, father, and younger brother—on Thursday, 3 January.
He was set to return with his family to Italy on 9 January.
