This came during a meeting with Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy and officials from United Media Services Company (UMS), which is managing the GEM opening.

The statement added that the meeting focused on organizational arrangements for the museum’s opening, asserting that the event will promote Egypt's tourism sector and its historical significance.

El-Sisi discussed with the officials how to "optimally utilize” the event to highlight Egypt's contribution to global cultural heritage and increase tourist numbers, the statement added.

The meeting also discussed the opening’s promotional plan, which includes collaboration with the private sector for marketing campaigns in hotels and resorts.

The president highlighted the need for "intensified preparations" to ensure the event reflects Egypt's "status and history" while avoiding burdening the state budget.

He stressed the museum's potential to showcase ancient Egyptian history alongside modern museum technology.

President El-Sisi also highlighted the importance of capitalising on the opening to promote Egypt's wider tourist destinations, the statement noted.

The GEM, the world’s largest museum, is situated near the newly inaugurated Sphinx International Airport and overlooks the iconic Pyramids of Giza.

It is set to become the largest museum worldwide dedicated to a single civilization: ancient Egypt.

The museum spans an impressive 500,000 square metres, twice the area of the Louvre Museum and two and a half times the area of the British Museum.

The GEM launched a soft opening in November 2023 and a trial run in October 2024, unfurling gardens and cafes, the hanging obelisk, the atrium, the grand staircase, and the main galleries, including 12 exhibition halls, to the public.
