Total passenger traffic at the airport, Egypt’s largest, rose 6.8 percent in 2025 to 30.94 million, up from 28.97 million in 2024. The number of flights increased 4.8 percent year-on-year to 224,303.

The surge, distributed across the airport’s three terminals, coincides with a peak in year-end holiday travel.

The ministry said operational readiness has been raised to maximum levels at the airport, with additional staff deployed to arrival and departure halls to expedite procedures during the holiday period.

Passenger traffic at other airports surged 22.3 percent in 2025, reaching approximately 28 million arrivals and departures, according to the statement.

The growth outpaced the previous year’s figure of 22.9 million, while the total number of flights rose 20.7 percent to roughly 209,800, up from 173,800 in 2024.

The ministry attributed the spike to an increase in international travel, particularly to Egypt’s coastal and heritage tourist hubs.

Demand for these destinations strengthened significantly during the current winter season and the year-end holiday period.

Egypt welcomed around 15.3 million tourists in 2024, a nearly 5 percent increase from the previous year.

The country has set an ambitious target of attracting 30 million tourists by 2028.
