Britain's Sunday Telegraph has published an investigation into President Mohamed Morsi's student days in the US.
Granted a scholarship to study engineering in California during the 1970s, the newly elected president, and longtime member of the Muslim Brotherhood, was a conservative and pious young man who shunned alcohol and cigarettes, according to the newspaper.
As a student, Morsi sported a moustache and focused all his energies on his PhD studies, the newspaper said.
Morsi's wife wanted to live in the United States, but he returned to his homeland because he wanted his children to be raised in Egypt, the newspaper added.
