The process of voting abroad in Egypt’s presidential elections is going smoothly for the second day in 103 Egyptian electoral committees around the world, Ahmed Bendari, the executive director of the National Elections Authority (NEA), said.

Earlier on Saturday, 137 Egyptian embassies and consulates across 121 countries opened their doors for the second consecutive day to receive eligible voters.

There were some technical problems related to ID cards but they are being solved immediately, Bendari said in an interview with local news channel Nile News on Saturday.

Bendari urged all citizens abroad to participate in voting.

Voting for Egyptians abroad is taking place from 1 to 3 December between 9am to 9pm local time.

Candidates running for the presidency include incumbent President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, represented by a star symbol; and Farid Zahran, the Social Democratic Party candidate represented by a sun.

This is in addition to Abdel-Sanad Yamama, the candidate chosen by Egypt's oldest party, the liberal Wafd Party, who is represented by a palm tree; and Hazem Omar, the Republican People’s Party candidate, represented by a ladder symbol.

All Egyptians, whose names are registered in the electoral roll and carry a valid passport or national ID card, are entitled to vote.

Voting inside Egypt will take place 10-12 December, with the final result to be announced on 18 December if no run-off is required.
