Egypt's presidential election sees zero appeals as voting results awaited Monday: Elections Authority

The National Election Authority (NEA) announced on Friday that no appeals had been filed against the decisions of the general committees of the polling stations during the designated period for filing appeals, which expired on Thursday evening.

According to the electoral timeline, the two-day period for deciding on appeals submitted to the NEA begins on Friday, 15 December 2023.

The results of the presidential elections held in Egypt from Sunday to Tuesday are set to be officially announced in the Official Gazette on Monday, 18 December 2023.

The NEA has received the tabulated results from the voting carried out by citizens across the governorates.

Preliminary reports on the vote count for Egypt's 2024 presidential elections suggest that the incumbent President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi is leading with a substantial margin of over 90 percent of the votes, as reported by Extra News TV channel on Wednesday.

The channel added that presidential candidates Farid Zahran, representing the Social Democratic Party, and Hazem Omar, representing the People's Republican Party, are competing to secure second place, citing preliminary results conducted by the general committees in various governorates across Egypt.

Around 67 million Egyptians are eligible to vote, according to the NEA which stated on the second day of the Presidential elections that the turnout reached 45 percent, signifying that over 30 million individuals have participated in the voting process.
