According to the Coptic Orthodox Church, the 81-year-old bishop died after a short struggle with an illness.
Egyptian media reports the late bishop died due to complications of the coronavirus after he was infected weeks ago.
The Coptic Orthodox Church announced that Pope Tawadros II will be leading the funeral of the late metropolitan on Tuesday in Cairo at the Saint Mark Coptic Orthodox Cathedral.
Born in Tanta in 1949, late bishop Hedra spent more than half a century wearing the garb of the Coptic Orthodox Church, including 46 years as a bishop and metropolitan of the Aswan Diocese.
As of Sunday, Egypt has recorded a total of 300,945 infections, including 17,149 deaths and 254,060 recoveries.
According to Health officials in Egypt, the country is witnessing its fourth wave of the coronavirus, with a steady daily increase in positive cases. The country is expected to reach the peak of the wave in three weeks.
