The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) expects the dusty gales to extend to the cities of the Suez Canal in northeastern Egypt, the eastern coasts, and North Sinai.

Rainy clouds will also continue to gather over separate areas of the northern coasts and northern Delta with rains of varying intensity expected over these areas, according to the EMA.

The inconvenient weather conditions have forced schools to suspend classes in Alexandria, Matrouh, Kafr El-Sheikh, and Beheira.

Moreover, physical attendance at Alexandria’s universities and educational institutes was also suspended.

On Tuesday, dusty winds raged across several parts of the western desert and the southern side of the country’s northern coast.

The wind also interrupted navigational activities, forcing authorities to close the straits of Alexandria and Dekheila’s ports as well as the ports of Burullus and Suez on Tuesday evening. Navigation at the Suez Port, however, resumed on Wednesday morning.

The weather is predicted to improve across the country starting Thursday, with a gradual 2-4 degree increase in temperatures as of Saturday, said the EMA.

The EMA advised citizens to keep windows firmly closed during the next few hours, urging individuals who suffer from allergies to avoid going outside. It also asked that drivers remain cautious, especially on highways, and that pedestrians walk away from buildings and billboards.
