Baseera announces best actors, anchors, footballers, TV channels, series in Egypt in 2021

Egypt’s Centre for Public Opinion Research Baseera has announced the results of its 2021 survey of the best actors, TV anchors, footballers, TV channels, and series in Egypt.

Mohamed Salah, Egypt’s international football star and Liverpool striker, secured a sweeping win in the survey as the best Egyptian footballer in 2021.

TV presenters Amr Adib and Mona El-Shazly topped the Egyptian anchors category, according to the survey, while Mohamed Ramadan and Yasmine Abdel-Aziz came first in acting.

Best anchors

According to the survey, 34 percent of participants from varying age groups and education stages think Adib is the top male anchor in 2021, winning by a large margin in the survey. Adib is a journalist and TV host of ‘Al-Hekaya’ (‘The Story’) programme on MBC Misr.

Adib was followed by Amr El-Leithy, the presenter of the ‘Wahed Mn Al-Nas’ programme on Al-Hayah TV, at 13 percent.

Ahmed Moussa, the presenter of ‘Ala Massoulity’ on Sada Al-Balad, came third at 10 percent.

Ramy Radwan, the presenter of ‘Masaa DMC’ on DMC channel and husband of renowned actress Donia Samir Ghanem, came third after El-Leithy as well, however, he was chosen mostly by survey participants who hold university degrees.

Among women, Mona El-Shazly — known for her talk show ‘Al-Ashira Masa'an’ (‘10 O'Clock at Night’) — came first at 39 percent, followed by Lamees El-Hadidi at 23 percent.

Esaad Younis, the presenter of ‘Sahebat Al-Saada’ programme, came in third place with only 4 percent of the vote.

El-Hadidi, however, came first as per the choice of those above 50 years of age in the survey, while El-Shazly won the hearts of younger audiences.

Baseera said it conducted the survey based on a sample of 1,103 citizens that are 18 years and older with a 48 percent response rate.

Best drama series

In terms of drama series, Ramadan soap opera ‘El-Ekhteyar 2’ (‘The Choice 2’), which highlighted the heroics of policemen in the fight against terrorism, came first at 20 percent, according to the survey.

El-Ekhteyar 2 starred Karim Abdel-Aziz, Ahmed Mekky, Amir Karara, and Amr Abdel-Gelil.

‘Molouk Al-Gadaana’ and ‘Moussa’ came in second and third places, respectively.

Best actor, actress

Mohamed Ramadan, the 33-year-old well-known actor and rapper, who starred in the show Moussa and more than 15 films came first in the survey at 18 percent as the best actor in 2021.

Karara, a 44-year-old actor, who started his professional career in the early 2000s and starred in dozens of drama series and films came in second at 15 percent.

Ahmed El-Saka, who is known for his action roles, came in third. El-Saka, 48, has been a prominent Egyptian action star in numerous films since the 90s.

Yasmine Abdel-Aziz came in first in the best actress category with 21 percent of the vote, followed by Mona Zaki and Mai Omar at 10 percent each, then actress Dalal Abdel-Aziz, who lost her life to complications of the coronavirus in 2021, with 6 percent.

Best TV channels

MBC Misr claimed the first place in 2021 at 18 percent, followed by the government-owned Egyptian Channel 1 at 14 percent, then ON Sport at 6 percent.

However, Channel 1 scored the highest among those above 50 years of age and those who hold lower education degrees.

Best footballer

Mo Salah secured a sweeping win in the survey at 86 percent, followed by Al-Ahly footballers Mohamed Magdy Afsha and Amr El-Solia at 3 and 2 percent, respectively.

According to Google Trends in 2021, ‘Al-Ahly club’ in Arabic was the most searched-for term by Egyptians.

Salah, 29, remained as dazzling as ever in 2021, rescuing Liverpool in a disappointing season and setting several Premier League records in the second half of the year.

Since signing with Liverpool in 2017 for £36 million, Salah has netted more than 145 goals in 227 appearances in all competitions.
