5.1-magnitude quake jolts Cyprus, sensed in Egypt's Dameitta

An earthquake measuring 5.1 magnitude on the Richter scale struck on Wednesday western Cyprus and was felt by residents of the Egyptian city of Dameitta, said Egypt’s National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIA) in a statement.

The tremor was recorded nearly 400 km north of Damietta on the north coast at 11:03 pm local time and it was felt by citizens but caused no damage, the NRIA statement said.

According to several international reports, the earthquake was felt in Palestine, Cyprus, Egypt, Israel, and United Kingdom.

Egypt, which is typically an earthquake safe country, has been hit by several earthquakes in the past few months.
